Jacqueline Fernandez was born on August 11, 1985, in Manama, Bahrain, and grew up in a diverse family. Her father, Elroy Fernandez, is of Sri Lankan Burgher descent, while her mother, Kim, has Malaysian and Canadian roots. Jacqueline’s maternal grandfather is Canadian, and her great-grandparents came from Goa, India. Her father, a musician in Sri Lanka, moved to Bahrain in the 1980s to escape conflict between Sinhalese and Tamils. He met Jacqueline’s mother, an air hostess, there. She is the youngest of four siblings, with one elder sister and two elder brothers.
After attending Sacred Heart School in Bahrain for her early education, she pursued mass communication studies at the University of Sydney in Australia. Following her graduation, she worked in television shows in Sri Lanka. She also learned languages at the Berlitz school, improving her Spanish, French, and Arabic.
