Born into the Kapoor family, he began his journey in the movie world with a childhood role in his father Raj Kapoor’s film “Mera Naam Joker” (1970), earning him the National Film Award for Best Child Artist.
In 1980, Kapoor married actress Neetu Singh, hailing from New Delhi and also of Punjabi Khatri descent. They became parents to a son named Ranbir Kapoor and a daughter named Riddhima Kapoor. In 2018, Rishi Kapoor was diagnosed with leukemia and sought treatment in New York City. Following a year of successful treatment, he returned to India on September 26, 2019. Unfortunately, he faced health complications and was admitted to Sir H. N. Reliance Foundation Hospital on April 29, 2020, due to breathing difficulties. Regrettably, he passed away on April 30, 2020, at 8:45 AM IST due to a recurrence of leukemia. His final rites were held at Chandanwadi Crematorium, and his ashes were immersed in Banganga.
